Quick & Cozy Japanese Meal at Yayoi Ken – Sydney’s Westfield Find”
I recently dropped by Yayoi Ken, a casual Japanese restaurant tucked inside Westfield Sydney.
It’s perfect for when you’re craving something warm, comforting, and balanced — especially if you’re into Japanese set meals, or teishoku. The place was pretty busy during lunch, but I still got seated quickly thanks to their efficient ordering system. More on that below!
What I Ordered & How It Works
One thing I loved right away: the self-ordering system.
Each table has a tablet where you can browse the menu, place your order, and even call for staff if needed — no waving or waiting. Super straightforward and quick.
I tried two different teishoku sets:
Chicken Katsu Teishoku
Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside — the chicken katsu was cooked just right.
It came with a generous portion of fluffy white rice, miso soup, pickles, and shredded cabbage. The tonkatsu sauce was rich and tangy, pairing perfectly with the katsu.
Simple, comforting, and super satisfying — exactly what you want from a Japanese lunch set.

Wagyu Mixed Teishoku
This set was a bit more indulgent — tender slices of wagyu beef served with a mix of grilled vegetables and dipping sauces.
The beef had that melt-in-your-mouth texture, with just the right amount of marbling.
It felt like a little upgrade from the usual teishoku — great if you want something a bit more special without going too fancy.
Each set was balanced, and the portions were just right. Not overly heavy, but enough to leave you full and happy.

Location & Final Thoughts
Located in Westfield Sydney, inside the food/restaurant level — just a short walk from the Myer section.
Very easy to find, especially if you’re already in the city center.
Unlike the noisy and crowded food court downstairs, this restaurant level is much quieter — so it’s a great place to sit down, unwind, and enjoy a calm meal after shopping.
Hours: Typically 11AM – 9PM (check Google Maps to be sure)
Ordering: Done via touchscreen at your table — fast and user-friendly
Best for: Quick solo meals, casual lunch with coworkers, or anyone missing Japanese food!
Overall, I’d recommend Yayoi Ken if you’re after something warm and satisfying without the fuss.
The automated system, the speed, and the comforting teishoku menu all make it a great go-to spot in the city.
